In the mid-1800s, the banks of the river near Riverside Park welcomed steamboats carrying people and supplies. Today it is home to the Riverside Environmental Learning Center, housed in the old Franklin School building. The center is a gem that contains displays on the role and value of the river to New Ulm and the region. The Center is children friendly, and kids will love the “pirate ship” playground outside! The Center documents and compiles regional history through hands-on displays, photographs, newspaper articles, and ongoing slide presentations during event weekends. The History Center also sponsors environmental education programs, field trips, and clean-up outings.
Open seasonally or by appointment.
