The Blue Earth County History Center Museum showcases items from the Society’s collection and reflects the rich heritage of Blue Earth County. Exhibits feature people, places, and events that shaped the county including Native American tools and artifacts, a diorama of downtown Mankato in the 1880s, a dugout canoe and an interactive Discovery Lab.
The name Blue Earth, applied to the river and the county, come from the Dakota word for the earth found along the rivers in this area, Makato, which also was the origin of the name Mankato.
