May 25, 2008 at 1pm the Swensson Farm Museum opens for the season. Olof Swensson & his family had a 17-acre farmstead. The 22-room wood frame house was started in 1901. The large timber-framed 1890s barn rests on a one-story granite foundation cut from locally gathered boulders. It has an elaborate system of wind bracing and notching. A small grist mill was constructed near the barn. It was powered by horses and later by steam engine. Swensson fashioned concrete monuments for the family cemetery located on the farm in which 9 family members are buried. Farm equipment such as a walking plow, a walk-behind cultivaotr, corn picker, early tractors and others are on display.
